PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Thanks to our members who worked so hard at the Street Rod Biergarten.  We had a very successful event with lots of cars and new faces, which contributed to fantastic food and drink sales.  Everyone seemed to have great time.  Special thanks to member, Perry Probst, who coordinated the event for us again this year.
We are still looking for someone who will be in charge of a third kitchen crew at the Biergartens.  This requires your services approximately once a month and no food preparation is necessary.  If you are interested, please contact Patsy Stout, at 727-1302 or email patsys@mwmcorp.com.
I’m sure you’ve noticed how clean and well kept our Club grounds have been this summer.  This is due to the Honeydoers.  They meet every Tuesday and work from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The work is not easy, and some have suffered from poison ivy after cleaning the fence row and the heat has been miserable for all.  Despite everything, they continue to make our club beautiful with their hard work.  If you would like to help, come out any Tuesday and join the Honeydoers.  Don’t forget, a delicious meal is served at noon prepared by Ros’l Becker.
Our new roof and heating/air conditioners have been installed.  Thanks go out to Bruce Zimmerman, who coordinated this project.
We hope to see all of our members at the upcoming Biergartens.  Don’t forget to invite your friends and anyone you meet to the Oktoberfest.  Hopefully we can have a large turn out and reduce our new roof debt.
Jimmy Boeckmann, President

A MESSAGE FROM THE MUSIC COMMITTEE
Rehearsals will begin again for the GAC chorus on September 9th in preparation for our annual Christmas concert.  We are thrilled to welcome back our director, Justin Romney and pianist, Louise Bornwasser for another season and of course we invite any of our members who might be interested, to join the chorus at this time.  We meet each Thursday at 7:30 pm, so if you’re interested or have any questions, please call me at 502-727-1302 or send an email to
patsys@mwmcorp.com.
On October 16th, our chorus will travel to Indianapolis for the Indianapolis Saenger Chor’s 125th Anniversary celebration.  We are honored to be invited and look forward to seeing our friends at the Saenger Chor, as well as our fellow singers from the other clubs in our district.

LADIES’ AUXILIARY
It was hot and humid but the August meeting was well attended.  We were privileged to hear Officer Dean Sturgeon speak to the ladies about “Self Protection”.  We learned basic tips for safety at home, when traveling in our cars or by foot.  Thanks to Officer Sturgeon and all members of the police force who help and protect us every day.
Our September speaker will be our own Vicky Ullrich, who will share her experiences about her trip to Oberammergau, Germany to see the “Passion Play” about the life of Jesus.
Due to the A/C system being repaired, we were unable to have our August card party, so let’s try to bring in as many friends as we can at our next card party scheduled for September 2nd and recoup the money we lost from this misfortune. Remember, all of our card party profits are used to help the club with all the little items they need to keep our club one of the best in the city.
Don’t forget the Oktoberfest is scheduled for September 24th and 25th (and hopefully no hurricanes this year!).  Your cakes, cookies, desserts or monetary donations are needed to make the Ladies Auxiliary Cake Booth a success.  Workers are also needed in the booth.  If you are available, please call me at 502-637-2747.  Any help you can provide for the Ladies Auxiliary during the Oktoberfest will be greatly appreciated.
Finally, our 63rd Anniversary will be celebrated October 18th.  All ladies are welcome.  Happy hour is at 6:00 pm with dinner served at 7:00 pm.  Come, enjoy and celebrate with us.  (Reservations required)

Peppy Crawford, President

ARRANGEMENTS COMMITTEE MESSAGE

It’s hard to believe school is back in session and summer is almost over.  But with the end of summer comes Oktoberfest and I know everyone is looking forward to our main event of the year.  It will be an extremely busy time for our many hard working volunteers, but in the end it will all be worthwhile.  Many of you have already committed to working at the Oktoberfest and I hope many others will be receptive when you are called to volunteer.  We will be finalizing our volunteer list soon, and as usual the most difficult time slots to fill are the late shifts, so please consider working during this time if at all possible.  Last year we asked our volunteers to park in the back lot to keep as much open parking in the main lot as possible.  This worked out very well, so please use the grassy area near the pavilion to park your cars if you are going to be working during the Oktoberfest.  If you aren’t able to work in some capacity, I hope you will support our efforts by attending the Oktoberfest on Friday and Saturday, September 24th and 25th
.

Our Biergartens have done so well this year even though it has been an extremely hot summer.  I want to thank our loyal kitchen crews, bartenders and Honeydoers for making our Biergartens possible.  Without their efforts, and the support of those who regularly attend, our Biergartens would not be a success.  Our thanks to all of you who have continually supported our Biergartens this summer and I hope you will continue to attend when we move the Biergartens into the Main Hall during the fall and winter months.  As for now, the Biergartens will continue outside, as long as we have good weather.
Patsy Stout, Chairman

GERMANIC HERITAGE AUXILIARY NEWS
The next GHA Sunday Series program will be a Video Voyage of Austria, featuring the PBS produced DVD, “Visions of Austria” on September 12, at 2:30 pm.  In addition to the film, there will be samples of some authentic Austrian Cuisine.  Hope to see you there – you will surely leave with beautiful scenery and Viennese waltzes whirling in your head!  No reservations required.
On June 23, 2010, Dr. Giles Hoyt, Professor Emeritus of German and past Director of the IUPUI Max Kade German-American Center, received the Bundesverdienstkreuz, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.  The honor was bestowed on Dr. Hoyt in Indianapolis by Onno Hueckmann, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany.  Dr. Hoyt was the presenter at our program on the reconstruction of the Frauenkirche in Dresden, Germany several years ago.  Dr. Hoyt’s academic career has been devoted to the promotion of German-American relations.  There is no one more deserving of this award and we extend our sincere congratulations and good wishes to Giles.
